Dog Story: On July 24, ABR participated in Operation Magnolia Brittany with the seizure of 103 Brittanys from a breeder in Louisiana. Despite the less than optimal situation they came from, in most every way they are your typical Brittanys – eager for love, resilient and spirited, and so very happy and sweet. ABR took 20 Magnolia Brittanys into California foster homes and our dogs have already had a wonderful start in ABR’s care. However, nearly all the Magnolia Brittanys are Heartworm Positive and require Heartworm treatment prior to adoption. Heartworm treatment requires several months in foster care and the cost of Heartworm treatment for each dog is approximately $1,000. The costs of veterinary care, vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchipping and Heartworm treatment in addition to the expense of supplies and transport for such a large group of dogs has been a great logistical and financial commitment. Our Brittanys are in desperate need of Brittany Buddy help and donations to help with the costs of their vet care, medical expenses and transport. Please find it in your heart to contribute to Operation Magnolia Brittany and become a Brittany Buddy – all donations will go directly towards helping these wonderful, deserving Brittanys on their journey to a new life! While undergoing Heartworm treatment the Magnolia Brittanys will remain in the loving care of their ABR foster homes. All the dogs have started Heartworm treatment and require several weeks of crate rest, leash walks and quiet recovery as their physical exertion must be limited during treatment. All the dogs have been spayed/neutered, microchipped and fully vetted. As soon as their Heartworm treatment is complete they will be back to normal and ready to move to their forever homes! In the meantime we are accepting adoption applications for the Magnolia Brittanys and invite potential adopters to contact their foster homes for more information. If you are interested in adopting one of these wonderful Louisiana Brittanys, please submit the online ABR adoption application and then contact their foster families. is a Magnolia Brittany from Louisiana. He is a gorgeous 4 year old liver_white male. Watson is Heartworm positive and currently undergoing Heartworm treatment. Watson is a real sweetie and has learned that belly rubs and ear scratches are the best! He is eager to explore the world and now does so quite confidently, curiously walking up to new objects without hesitation and investigating the forest. Watson loves to eat and is starting to gain some much-needed healthy weight. He is very gentle with new people and when taking treats. He gets along well with Louisiana foster brother Truman and enjoys the company of his Britt siblings who are experts in showing all the new guys the ropes. Watson has taken all of his vet treatments surprisingly in stride and the entire vet staff fell in love with him on his first visit. Watson really wants to go for runs and get out and play with the other dogs. We’re counting down the days until he can and it will only be another couple of weeks until he’s finished with treatment and ready to run! If you are interested in adopting please submit the online adoption application and mention Watson-4420, then contact his foster family.
