Dog Story: Toby is an exuberant, inquisitive, impulsive bundle of puppy energy. He is well-bred and smart, showing great instincts of the bird dog he is. Toby came into our foster care as an unsocialized 8-month-old pup with overcharged, heedless behaviors. We offered consistent guidance and training but the real factor in Toby’s transformation has been the opportunity to run in the field and hunt birds. Our basic training on recall off-lead was productive enough that now he is freely running 80 acres daily, returning when asked, and checking in throughout the day. Consequently, he is more calm and settles down at our feet in the evening. This handsome youngster’s most endearing quality is that he loves people and wants to be with us. He does not bolt out the door or run away outside but he does have some anxiety when he cannot see his people. He knows some commands like sit, down, stay, off, here, and load-up. He is learning to ride well in a car and is solidly housebroken. He is not allowed on the furniture except for the the chair he sleeps on at night in our bedroom! Toby needs supervision and would do well in an active family home. He is not suitable for an urban home with a small yard and a walk on a leash as his sole outlet for exercise. If you have solid experience with young Brittanys, allow your dogs inside with you, and would be committed to helping Toby become a civilized member of your family, please complete our on-line adoption application and mention Toby’s name. Toby was surrendered by his owner due to health issues in the family.
