Tina is absolutely one of the sweetest dogs you will ever come across. And let’s not forget what a beautiful roan she is.
Tina’s owner passed away. She was taken in by a neighbor who took care of her for 2 months but was not able to keep her so Tina was surrendered to ABR.
Tina is about 8 years old and average size for a female Brittany weighing in at about 34 Lbs.
She is house broken but it is better if you let her out a lot vs. waiting for her to signal to you she has to go out. I have left her home alone several times for 3 or 4 hours and she has not had an accident.
She sleeps through the night on her own bed on the floor. I’m sure she would happily sleep with you in your bed, but I just don’t do that. She is smart, she learned very quickly jumping up on the sofas downstairs is OK but on a bed is not.
I tried her in a crate and she was OK. She wouldn’t willingly go in but was OK once in. I think she would prefer not to be crated but would get used to it if she needed to be crated.
Our yard is fenced but I try to keep her out of certain areas and she learned quickly where she should not go. You set the boundaries and she will learn them.
She walks good on a leash, for a Brittany. I’ve never had a Brittany that did not pull at all. Some will try to pull your arm out of the socket, Tina won’t. She listens well when she is off leash, comes right away when you call her.
I work from home and for most of the day she sleeps on the sofa in my office. Every now and then she stops by for a quick pet or to play, grabs a little water, then back to sleep on the sofa.
She can be very playful throughout the day, but winds down quickly if you have to go back to work.
At night she will snuggle up next to you and watch a movie. She likes to be with her people but is not such a Velcro dog that she tries to follow you into the bathroom or gets upset when you leave the house.
Tina has been with a lot of dogs, big and small from a Pug to a Bernese Mountain Dog, and has gotten along well with all of them. She can be a little timid at first especially with big or higher energy dogs. My son has a 2-year-old Brittany and over the holidays they spent a lot of time together and played very well.
Tina has not been tested with cats, nor did she previously live with cats, so cats are an unknown.
Tina is great with people and would do well in any family, with or without kids.
Oh! Did I say she is a really good girl, and she enjoys a good car ride too!
As a younger dog she had extraocular myositis an eye disorder that affects the muscles that move the eyes. She has been examined by an eye specialist, and they believe it is no longer an active condition. Extraocular myositis is something more often found in younger dogs. They feel she had it as a younger dog and her eyes are stable now. She can see fine and there is no quality-of-life issue for her. This is something that should just be monitored, but it is not something they expect will worsen as she gets older. Tina has a kidney condition, so she is on a special prescription diet and medicine for life.
Her meds purchased online from Chewy with a prescription. A one-month supply is $7.20 and if you put it on auto ship it drops to $6.84. She looks to be in an early stage and with the diet and meds the goal is to control it, but she will need to have follow ups with her new vet to be sure everything stays in check.
Please consider this sweet girl as she is just waiting for her new forever family.
