Update 1/13/14: Skeeter will be a long term foster. Dog Story: On July 24, ABR participated in Operation Magnolia Brittany with the seizure of 103 Brittanys from a breeder in Louisiana. Despite the less than optimal situation they came from, in most every way they are your typical Brittanys – eager for love, resilient and spirited, and so very happy and sweet. ABR took 20 Magnolia Brittanys into California foster homes and our dogs have already had a wonderful start in ABR’s care. However, nearly all the Magnolia Brittanys are Heartworm Positive and require Heartworm treatment prior to adoption. Heartworm treatment requires several months in foster care and the cost of Heartworm treatment for each dog is approximately $1,000. The costs of veterinary care, vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchipping and Heartworm treatment in addition to the expense of supplies and transport for such a large group of dogs has been a great logistical and financial commitment. Our Brittanys are in desperate need of Brittany Buddy help and donations to help with the costs of their vet care, medical expenses and transport. Please find it in your heart to contribute to Operation Magnolia Brittany and become a Brittany Buddy – all donations will go directly towards helping these wonderful, deserving Brittanys on their journey to a new life! While undergoing Heartworm treatment the Magnolia Brittanys will remain in the loving care of their ABR foster homes. All the dogs have started Heartworm treatment and require several weeks of crate rest, leash walks and quiet recovery as their physical exertion must be limited during treatment. All the dogs have been spayed/neutered, microchipped and fully vetted. As soon as their Heartworm treatment is complete they will be back to normal and ready to move to their forever homes! In the meantime we are accepting adoption applications for the Magnolia Brittanys and invite potential adopters to contact their foster homes for more information. If you are interested in adopting one of these wonderful Louisiana Brittanys, please submit the online ABR adoption application and then contact their foster families. is a Magnolia Brittany from Louisiana. He is a handsome little 5 year old liver_white male. Skeeter is Heartworm positive and currently undergoing Heartworm treatment. Skeeter has progressed such a long way from his arrival in foster care and has really come out of his shell with a wonderful personality! Skeeter loves squeaky toys and is forever picking them out of the toy basket to carry his babies around the house. He even brings at least two or three of his stuffed friends to bed at night! Skeeter is initially wary of new things (loud noises, the water hose, people shouting) but is growing more confident each day. He enjoys investigating new things like trying out counter-surfing but always stays close and responds to commands. Skeeter walks nicely on leash and even has the occasional privilege to stroll off-leash walking together on the trails. He is a great eater and has put on some healthy weight. Skeeter gets along beautifully with other dogs and will initiate play with canine friends. He follows his Brittany foster brother Frank everywhere and gains confidence learning the lead from other dogs. He has really bonded with foster mom and loves cuddles, kisses and being held like any human would do with their favorite dog. Skeeter will do best in a quieter home with another young dog for playtime and companionship. If you are interested in adopting please submit the online adoption application and mention Skeeter-4397, then contact his foster family.
