Update 3/18/14: Sailor is returned to ABR due to the owners allergies. Dog Story: On July 24, ABR participated in Operation Magnolia Brittany with the seizure of 103 Brittanys from a breeder in Louisiana. Despite the less than optimal situation they came from, in most every way they are your typical Brittanys – eager for love, resilient and spirited, and so very happy and sweet. ABR took 20 Magnolia Brittanys into California foster homes and our dogs have already had a wonderful start in ABR’s care. However, nearly all the Magnolia Brittanys are Heartworm Positive and require Heartworm treatment prior to adoption. Heartworm treatment requires several months in foster care and the cost of Heartworm treatment for each dog is approximately $1,000. The costs of veterinary care, vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchipping and Heartworm treatment in addition to the expense of supplies and transport for such a large group of dogs has been a great logistical and financial commitment. Our Brittanys are in desperate need ofBrittany Buddy help and donations to help with the costs of their vet care, medical expenses and transport. Please find it in your heart to contribute to Operation Magnolia Brittany and become a Brittany Buddy – all donations will go directly towards helping these wonderful, deserving Brittanys on their journey to a new life! While undergoing Heartworm treatment the Magnolia Brittanys will remain in the loving care of their ABR foster homes. All the dogs have started Heartworm treatment and require several weeks of crate rest, leash walks and quiet recovery as their physical exertion must be limited during treatment. All the dogs have been spayed/neutered, microchipped and fully vetted. As soon as their Heartworm treatment is complete they will be back to normal and ready to move to their forever homes! In the meantime we are accepting adoption applications for the Magnolia Brittanys and invite potential adopters to contact their foster homes for more information. If you are interested in adopting one of these wonderful Louisiana Brittanys, please submit the online ABR adoption application and then contact their foster families. isa Magnolia Brittany from Louisiana. He is the cutest little 4 year old liver_white male at all of 27 pounds. Sailor is Heartworm positive and currently undergoing Heartworm treatment. Sailor loves, adores and is crazy about people! He craves human attention more than anything else but is also a happy jumping jelly bean when playing with other dogs! Sailor gets along great with the resident pack of English Springer Spaniels at his foster home and even tries with all his might to get our old show Springer to play. We keep Sailor calm due to his heartworm treatment, but nevertheless Sailor and our field Springer Darby are just in love having a grand time together like little kids. His friendly antics are too funny to watch and Sailor and Darby make quite the pair of bird dog dynamos. Sailor is crate-trained and accustomed to resting and sleeping in his crate. He enjoys chewies for relaxation time and happily hangs out in in our home office with the constant flow of noise, people and dogs. Foster mom is also a professional groomer so Sailor has had the privilege of top-notch doggy baths and primping to bring out that handsome glow! Sailor had his final heartworm treatment and in a few weeks will be ready to go to his new home. If you are interested in adopting please submit the online adoption application and mention Sailor-4414, then contact his foster family.
