Dog Story: Hi, I’m Ryder! I was picked up as a stray in eastern NC, taken to the shelter, where I was thankfully rescued by ABR. I am about 5 years old, so I still have some Brittany energy, but I settle down nicely in the house. I was skinny and now I’m perfect a weight but am still a little shy. When I came to ABR I tested positive for heartworm. I have completed my treatment and I am ready to find my forever home! After my treatment, my foster dad and mom took me for walks and kept telling me what a good girl I was! I walk/run nicely using a leash but will need a fenced in backyard to play in because I love to run. I get along with my foster sisters and at first thought they were my new pack but I am slowly learning that my foster mom and dad are also in the pack and they are the pack leaders. I’m more confident around the other dogs and I’m learning from them too. Unfortunately I don’t know how to play with people or dogs but hopefully you will teach me. I would love to have a canine companion and to have my new family keep me active and busy. I will need a little time to settle in and I need a quiet home where people have patience to help me be the happy girl I want to be. My foster mom says I get better every day! Foster mom here . Ryder is a pretty girl with a long tail. She was very bonded with the other 2 dogs that she was rescued with but not with people. She was the oldest and took the longest to come around and she still has a ways to go. She is very smart and food motivated. She has not had any accidents in the house in a very long time and she is out of her crate most of the time. She needs a house where people aren’t loud and don’t yell. She needs (and responds to) positive reinforcement and will cower from criticism and negative reinforcement behaviors directed to her or not. She loves her crate and sleeps well at night. She has discovered the kitchen has wonderful smells and sits outside the gate at mealtime hoping we will send some yummy morsels her way. She knows sit, down and will, most of the time come for a treat. Do you have room in your heart to help Ryder come completely out of her shell? If you would like to be the forever home of Ryder’s dreams fill out our online adoption application and note Ryder. Stop by my blog to see more pictures and updates on me!!! http://www.followourfosterdogs.blogspot.com/ Ryder and two other Britts, were picked up by Animal Control in North Carolina. ABR treated all three for Heartworms and one has already been adopted. Ryder was so unsure of people when she first came into rescue but is coming around nicely.
