Ruby is a sweet, little gal. She loves to
run, chase and wrestle with her foster brother but has no problem settling down
when we come inside. She gets a 4-mile walk in the morning and a couple
twenty-minute play sessions in a fenced area. She is confident around
dogs (she’s the alpha to my dog), but she is nervous and skittish around
people. She startles easily and her first reaction is to run. Despite this, she really craves human attention. Over the past few weeks,
she is gaining trust but is still a bit jumpy. Introductions with newcomers
need to be made slowly giving Ruby time to adjust. She kind of knows ‘sit’, though she will lie down as often as she sits. She will go into the dog crate voluntarily to sleep, but if I approach the
door, she scrambles to get out of it so as not to get trapped in there. She walks fairly well but with some pulling. She is house trained and uses
a dog door to access an enclosed kennel. For a 1-year-old she is fairly
well behaved in the house. Every now and then she will start to chew
something she shouldn’t but if asked to ‘drop it’ or given something else to
chew, she will stop. This girl will do best in a home with a calm, steady atmosphere. She
displays good behavior with a stable routine. Her forever family needs to
be patient adults. She would benefit from a family that has experience
with fear aggression or one who is willing to work with a certified
behaviorist. She has obviously had a rough start in life but this adorable and playful girl
has a lot of love to give. With time and correct handling, she can
overcome her fear of people and be a happy, healthy dog.No sight unseen or long distance adoptions for this sweetie. We feel it is important that
all family members (human and canine) meet to assure that we have a good
fit. If Ms. Ruby sounds like the gal for you please complete the adoption applicationRuby was one of several Britts confiscated by the local shelter. She was
adopted from the shelter to a family with younger kids and returned after they
realized this was not a good match. ABR was contacted and we took her into our
foster care. Ruby is spayed and micro chipped. She is current on
all vaccinations, is Heart Worm negative and is on Heart Worm
Preventative.
