Dog Story: Poppy is an unusual, but lovable Brittany boy who we estimate to be 15 to 18 months old. We don’t know a whole lot about Poppy’s background other than he was surrendered to a North Carolina shelter as ‘Jake’ by his previous owner who simply said, ‘He won’t hunt’. When we first met Poppy, he was extremely cautious of people. In fact, it has taken nearly four months for Poppy to fully trust his foster parents, and even now, he is easily startled when they enter a room unexpectedly where he may be playing or resting. He certainly does not display the typical social characteristics of a Brittany, but ironically, he seems to have natural hunting capabilities. Poppy absolutely loves the other dogs in his foster home and has integrated extremely well with both Brittanys and mixed breed dogs. Poppy would be best served by an adoptive family with other friendly dogs and a big yard where he is free to explore, rest, and feel safe. He will be sure to tug on your heart strings. If you are interested in meeting Poppy please fill out our online adoption application and note Poppy # 3588. Poppy was an owner surrender to a North Carolina shelter.
