Dog Story: On July 24, ABR participated in Operation Magnolia Brittany with the seizure of 103 Brittanys from a breeder in Louisiana. Despite the less than optimal situation they came from, in most every way they are your typical Brittanys – eager for love, resilient and spirited, and so very happy and sweet. ABR took 20 Magnolia Brittanys into California foster homes and our dogs have already had a wonderful start in ABR’s care. However, nearly all the Magnolia Brittanys are Heartworm Positive and require Heartworm treatment prior to adoption. Heartworm treatment requires several months in foster care and the cost of Heartworm treatment for each dog is approximately $1,000. The costs of veterinary care, vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchipping and Heartworm treatment in addition to the expense of supplies and transport for such a large group of dogs has been a great logistical and financial commitment. Our Brittanys are in desperate need of Brittany Buddy help and donations to help with the costs of their vet care, medical expenses and transport. Please find it in your heart to contribute to Operation Magnolia Brittany and become a Brittany Buddy – all donations will go directly towards helping these wonderful, deserving Brittanys on their journey to a new life! While undergoing Heartworm treatment the Magnolia Brittanys will remain in the loving care of their ABR foster homes. All the dogs have started Heartworm treatment and require several weeks of crate rest, leash walks and quiet recovery as their physical exertion must be limited during treatment. All the dogs have been spayed/neutered, microchipped and fully vetted. As soon as their Heartworm treatment is complete they will be back to normal and ready to move to their forever homes! In the meantime we are accepting adoption applications for the Magnolia Brittanys and invite potential adopters to contact their foster homes for more information. If you are interested in adopting one of these wonderful Louisiana Brittanys, please submit the online ABR adoption application and then contact their foster families. a Magnolia Brittany from Louisiana. He is a handsome 4 year old liver_white male with the most beautiful deep brown eyes. Oakley is Heartworm positive and currently undergoing Heartworm treatment. He is a very sweet, gentle soul who wants so badly to come bouncing out! Oakley is learning the ways of the big world and that new things and people are not scary but actually very wonderful. He has gotten accustomed to all the sights, smells and sounds of a real home and family, complete with many other dogs and kids! And Oakley loves both. He would do best with another dog who loves to play because Oakley wants to go bouncing along so badly with the other foster Brittanys and English Springer Spaniels, his patient eagerness is so endearing. Oakley would sure like to investigate and try out some counter-surfing (thanks to foster brother Sailor for teaching him that one!) but is so eager and accepting of guidance and training. Oakley lets out a little yip to tell you it’s time to go outside, and after all he’s been waiting all day to see his buddies! Oakley is crate-trained and kept pretty sedate due to his heartworm treatment, which will be finished shortly. We just love him and Oakley is thriving with the love of human attention, dog attention and kid attention. Good boy, Oak! Oakley is a gem of a Brittany who is a total sweetheart and will make a wonderful companion. If you are interested in adopting please submit the online adoption application and mention Oakley-4415, then contact his foster family.
