Dog Story: Greetings, my name is McGee! I am one of the luckiest rescue Britts around, and also unlucky in a way, but my life has already changed for the better. I came from a rural shelter in Alabama as a stray. The fantastic shelter staff couldn’t believe someone didn’t come looking for me, so ABR was called and took me in. Then I got on my own private airplane – two wonderful volunteer pilots flew me in their plane from Alabama to Florida, and I was such a lucky passenger enjoying my time on wings! I am also really lucky because I’m in a foster home with a loving family that wants to adopt me once I get better! But I’ve also had a rough time of it because we found out I have something called hip dysplasia. My left hip is especially in need of fixing, since my joints have worn down making my hind end weak, and I can’t do much exercise or activity like young Brittanys should. The good news is I have awesome vets that have checked me out and can help fix me up! I’ve had all sorts of poking and prodding and stretching, even laying still like a good boy on the table for x-rays (most dogs just get cute pictures of their outsides, but guess they wanted to see what my insides look like too!) When they did x-rays, the vets saw my bad hip right away, and also that I have been shot. Not sure how I ended up with those pellets in me, but they don’t bother me. It’s just my hip that needs fixing, and ABR wants to make sure I can live the best healthy life. I will need surgery to repair my left hip joint, and my foster to adopt family is going to take great care of me as I recover from surgery. I could really use someBrittany Buddyfriends to help with my vet expenses as I get back in good shape. I finally get to be in a real home for the holidays, and I’m so excited that soon I will be a healthy boy again! Sending Britt hugs and kisses – Love, McGee McGee is a darling, affectionate Brittany sweetheart who has weathered rough times in his young years. We don’t know much about his past, but even with his stiff hip and birdshot along one side, McGee greets every day with a relaxed smile and a passion for life. He has never met a stranger and loves all the attention he’s been missing, belly rubs and gentle walks around the yard, and celebrated his first Thanksgiving in a real home with his foster to adopt family. McGee’s x-rays showed he has bilateral hip dysplasia, causing lameness and muscle atrophy in his back end with the hip joints grinding together. His left hip is especially degraded and will require surgery to restore movement in the hip joint, allowing him to do normal exercise and motion without pain. McGee has been evaluated with an excellent team of orthopedic veterinarians and will have expert care for his hip replacement. We are thankful that surgery will be able to help this sweet boy, and want to ensure McGee has the quality of life he deserves to enjoy a healthy life without pain. AllBrittany Buddydonations for McGee will go directly towards helping with his medical costs, and we are incredibly grateful for the generous supporters who make it possible for ABR to help rescue Brittanys in need live their best life!
