This Maizee-May, as we call her, is one mighty fine hunting dog. She has proudly presented us with a mouse, a bird, and a shrew! Because she is always on high alert for potential prey, she can be quite active plus is quite young at age two. Maizee knows come, sit, down, high five, crate, and off-so she is definitely a smart gal, and because of that needs daily mental stimulation. In spite of her high activity level, she crates well during the day while we are gone. Maizee retrieves a ball but doesn’t always give it up so you can throw it again! It will be best for Maizee if she goes to a home with no other animals or she goes to a home with other dogs and an owner who can very patiently introduce them. She has shown that she doesn’t really like sharing the spotlight with another dog and she also can be a bit shy with new people but responds well to treats. Though she hasn’t been cat tested, based on her high prey drive it is unlikely that a home with cats will work well. Children with their boundless energy make this girl anxious, so a family with kids under 12 will not be considered. It seems that Maizee wasn’t well socialized when she was a puppy, so please no sight unseen adoptions. Our goal would be for all family members ( human and canine) to meet Maizee to make sure we have a good fit.
