Hi everyone!
My name is Maggie and I just had my first birthday!! I was adopted as a puppy by an older gentleman and he recently had to go into assisted living. I was tied out most of the time in my yard and my owner’s nice family knew I needed to be somewhere I could run, play and be your best friend. My foster mom and her friend came to get me and boy, do I love my new life as a Brittany! I am just the friendliest girl you have ever met and I am a very fast learner. My foster parents and my two foster siblings, Kenobi (ABR Alum) and Leia, have quickly taught me to be a great member of the pack. We have a fenced yard that is about an acre, and my favorite thing to do is play ball and splash in my puppy pool. I bring the ball right back and drop it right away so we can keep playing – I even learned how to use the doggy door in about 15 minutes. Being part of this pack has really helped me to know how to play with other dogs and learn how to chill when it is time to rest. I LOVE routine and as long as I get lots of exercise, I am a really good girl. My mom taught me how to walk really nicely on a leash, with my Gentle Leader and we go for walks or jogs together in the morning. I even sit, and wait, when we meet other runners and walkers….these friends tell me I am a “good girl” and “really well behaved”. My family has even taken me on some vacations and I am a great traveler and really good in public. I LOVE adventures! Although I love my pack, and like to follow my foster mom around, I am very independent and confident so would be ok without a canine sibling, but if I do have canine friends, I can be persistent in telling them I want to play. My foster brother tells me when I am too much, and I do respect it pretty well.
I don’t have the prey drive my siblings do, so when they are obsessing over a bird or a chippy, I am happy to keep playing ball, chewing on my Benebone or exploring the yard. I was really overweight when I first came and my diet wasn’t very good, but my foster mom (she’s a veterinarian) got me on this wonderful Farmer’s Dog fresh food and I have gotten down to a healthy weight, my coat and skin are really soft and shiny and my muscles are strong. I just feel great! I sit, and wait until my foster mom or dad say “ok” to eat. I have a gentle mouth and it is best I have Benebones (super chewer nylon type bones) as anything edible like rawhide make my tummy upset – not that I can’t handle new treats of course, just those things with my love of chewing are not good for me. I love to snuggle at night and in the mornings or hang out on your recliner with you and chew my Benebone. You must be thinking – she’s perfect right!! Well I am, of course, but my foster mom says you should know a few things to in order to help me to continue to thrive. I am still a curious puppy, so I will help check out anything you have in a bag, or help with laundry (I will take socks if you leave them around), I also like to see what is on the kitchen counter, I’m JUST LOOKING…and I am getting better being told “OFF” but I may get myself in trouble with little ones or teenagers that leave stuff around. I am really good with kids when we meet them in public, but I am still a pup that can get excited so may knock them over in all my happiness. I just finished treatment for Lyme disease and Anaplasmosis – both are tick diseases I got because I never was on prevention. But now I feel so much better and run really fast! I also had a UTI that was untreated for months, so when I first came to foster care, I would leak urine in my sleep. I didn’t know I was doing it and am potty trained. My UTI is gone and my foster mom put me on Proin to help regain bladder control and I have been doing AWESOME! Before, I could only hold a small amount in my bladder, but on my meds I can hold it all night and for 6 ish hours the few times I have been in the crate when my parents have been out. My foster mom says I may be able to wean off the meds in a couple of months, but it is too early to tell. Not a big deal though – it can be pretty common, so don’t let that prevent you from us being best pals! I am up to date on vaccines, on heartworm and flea and tick prevention and spayed. Speaking of crates, I do need to be in one if you leave the house, just because I am a pup 🙂 but I actually love it and settle right down for a nap. So what is my perfect home? A fenced in yard with lots of room to run and play ball. An active person or family that loves to take me with them as a companion. Someone who works from home would be perfect as I will sleep during the day and am a really good officemate, but I would tolerate a few hours to be in a crate if I had to, but all day would make me very sad. Kids? Certainly! I would be great to come along to ball games or activities where I can be with my people, just remember, I am a pup and want to be with you forever, and not forgotten when life gets busy. My foster mom and dad will have a hard time saying goodbye, but they know I need my very own family to write my forever story.
Let’s meet and fall in Brittany love as best friends!
