Dog Story: Dixie is sweet, petite and she is going to make some lucky family very happy! Her original owners listed her in a Craigslist ad. A well-intentioned woman responded to the ad and got Dixie to give a friend as a gift. The gift recipient had recently lost her Brittany but she just was not ready for another, so the woman turned Dixie over to rescue. Thankfully, Dixie was healthy and heartworm negative (yay!). Once in rescue, she got spayed and microchipped. She also got her teeth cleaned so her breath is (almost!) minty fresh. Dixie is so easy to have in the house. She learned our house rules quickly and has excellent manners. She is housetrained and has not had any accidents at all. She is crate trained and loves her crate – we put a big pillow in the bottom and leave the door open all day. She goes in to nap or if she needs a break from the house chaos. We have been crating her at night and when we are gone. Unlike many Britts, we have not found her to require a huge amount of exercise. She gets excited when she sees her leash and likes to go for walks. I have gone for runs with her, too, which she likes, as well. She pulls a little on the leash, but not too badly, and she is working on it. Dixie is great with everyone – kids included. My kids (9 and 5) wanted me to mention that she is really, really, really, really great with kids. She has been great with friends’ kids, too. And, if she gets overstimulated, she goes to rest in her crate. She would be fine in a house with other dogs, but would be fine as an only dog, as well. She rides well in the car, is not afraid of the vacuum and is learning to use the stairs. She enjoys lying in the sun on the back porch or in the yard. She might dig a little hole in your yard if she finds something interesting. And she loves a treat! She knows sit, crate, off, and come, and is learning down. She weighs in at just 30 pounds (30.4 to be exact!) – perfect snuggle size! She loves to have her belly rubbed and to sit in your lap. She is looking for her forever lap – and her forever home, so if she is everything you have been waiting for please fill out our adoption application and note Dixie. Dixie was listed on craigslist and her guardian angel picked her up for a neighbor as a surprise as the woman was so sad after losing her Brittany. Unfortunately the neighbor was just not ready for another dog. Dixie is spayed, up to date on shots, heartworm negative and on preventative. She has also had a recent dental and microchipping!
