Dog Story: Hola, mi nombre es Choco y estoy buscando a alguien que me comprenda y ame por quien soy. Hi, My name is Choco and I am looking for a forever home that will love me as I am.. You see, I was found abandoned in Spain and brought to the shelter. At the shelter, I was so stressed all I could do is pace and turn circles. Maybe I was kept kenneled or tied up and turning in circles was the only way I could move. Maybe I turn from the anxiety of all I have been through. You see, I was probably abandoned after I couldn’t hunt well. Maybe my owner even shot at me out of anger, because I have birdshot pellets in my rear legs. The nice people at the shelter worked with me for months trying to help me overcome my anxiety. They say I have come so far and they consider me quite the success story. I don’t know about that, but I sure do love snuggling up with people who make me feel safe and secure. I never knew life could be so good. Foster mom here: Choco is an amazingly beautiful boy with a heart full of love. We have been amazed at how trusting and loving he is after all he has been though. He is quite possibly the most loving foster we’ve ever had. He is on an anxiety medicine that he takes once a day. The medicine costs $50 for a month. We hope perhaps one day when he is comfortable and settled he may be able to lower the dose or come off of it, but for now he must stay on it. (And maybe he always will.) Choco seems to still have a lot of anxiety in the morning, but with the medicine and a nice daily walk, he is able to settle for the rest of the day. He is an ABSOLUTE snuggle bug and whoever adopts him will be lucky. He will require several things to thrive: 1. A home where the people are not gone to work all day, every day. He does have some separation anxiety also. To go along with this we feel having a canine buddy at home is also helpful. 2. A home without a lot of steps. Because of the constant turning and spinning when anxious, he has injured his back right leg. The x-ray is clear, but he just has caused soft tissue pain from the constant stress and overuse. The spinning is much better, we hope that with a steady environment it will get even better and so will the leg, but anything we can do to lessen the stress on his back leg would be in his best interest. 3. We would prefer a home in the southeast. After making the long journey from Spain, we do not want to subject him to a long transport with people he does not know. Choco is up-to-date on all vaccines and heartworm and leishmaniasis negative. If you would like to be Choco’s knight in shining armor and feel you can meet the requirements of what he needs, we would love to hear from you. Please fill out an adoption application and e-mail the contact person listed to the left.
