Buster was surrendered by his owner in Oklahoma after some health issues made him realize he needed a home and family that would give him more time and attention. Buster has been an outdoor hunting dog and spent his first four years alongside his brother Covey, who is currently being fostered in a different home. Buster loves being outside! He would prefer being outside as he can get a little anxious inside. Something we have been working on with him in our care.Buster is a very smart dog and and in just a few short weeks he has discovered: his name, commands like kennel up, come, sit, wait, and leave-it. We have worked with him on a leash and on a long lead (like for hunting training). He has been trained on a prong collar and an e-collar. He needs his time alone in his kennel after too many human/dog interactions. He will isolate himself after a period of time with other dogs (we have worked on extending this time everyday). He also shows many signs that he can be retrained to hunt. After hearing fireworks and gunshots, he has become anxious and looks for a safe place. He loves to chase things that fly, especially butterflies.Buster shows a puppy love for all the toys he encounters. He has been introduced to other dogs. And he needs to be introduced to any pets currently living in the house. He cannot go to a home with cats. He has in the past shown to be bossy which can lead to a little aggression as a protective behavior. We have only seen this on day one so we want to make sure we have rid him of this behavior. Over the last few weeks we have seen him learn to become a pack member in our house and learn to trust us. Buster does have some indoor house manners to clean up as he is not discipline in this environment. We will continue to work on these until he finds his forever home. He currently sleeps in a kennel at night inside due to his indoor anxiety and not knowing what he can and cannot get into.Buster loves attention! He will train for treats and belly rubs. He loves to lay by you and be petted. He would make a great only dog as he wants your full attention. His last vet check showed he has some tension in his back legs which with exercises and stretches (while he waits for his belly rubs) could benefit his flexibility. If you are looking for a trainable, hunting companion, that likes to enjoy outdoor activities, Buster is the dog for you! He will be one that needs training everyday but it will be worth it!Buster is UTD on his vaccines and H/W negative and on preventative. If you are interested in adopting Buster, then please complete the online application and mention his name and ID#.Buster along with his brother Covey were outside dogs who loved to hunt with their owner. Unfortunately, due to health issues, that changed and he realized he needed them to find them a better future so ABR was contacted.
