Dog Story Oh they don’t come sweeter than this! Meet Axel, full of spit and vinegar and yet one who will snuggle hard against you on a cold night whether in bed or on the couch. Axel has had a rough start to life. He was born with hip dysplasia with his left being in bad shape. On October 6th, he went in for surgery to remove the ‘ball’ of his left leg. He has since been going to therapy to help strengthen the joints and the muscles around his left hip as well as his right. He already has arthritis forming in his right hip, but several doctors have agreed that he is in little discomfort and the muscles on the right are doing their job to support his hip and leg. Now don’t think for a minute that Axel is this frail little pup. Far from it. He runs with the rest of the gang, plays pretty rough as well. He enjoys a game of fetch and does pull on a leash, but for his situation, it’s actually good because it makes him use his back legs for momentum. Axel loves children and I don’t know about cats, but I don’t see him being too mean to them.he has a sensitive soul. Axel will not be one to hunt in the field he will always tire sooner than others. Axel though, will make an excellent companion for the right family. One that will keep him exercised whether swimming or hiking.doing things that will keep that back end going strong. Axel will not be available for adoption until his therapy is complete. Could be a few more months.it all depends on HIM. If you would like to be considered to adopt when the time comes, please fill out the adoption application and mention his name and ID #. Axel is current on his vaccines and heartworm negative and on preventative. Axel is an owner surrender. His owners didn’t have the time he needed for attention and exercise. They thought he walked funny and had taken him to the vet several times only to be told it was a ‘puppy’ thing and he would grow out of it. The night before he was to be transported into rescue, their home caught on fire and they lost pretty much everything.
