UPDATE – The owner is requesting that all adopters be willing to travel to meet Margo.

This dog wants to EXPLORE!  Margo is our family’s third Brittany in 30 years, and she’s more work-focused than our previous dames.

Margo views her owner as a work partner, and the job is detecting wildlife. On walks, she pauses to point out every rabbit, squirrel and bird. One or both of Margo’s parents were dual champions. She has a fantastic nose.

Margo originally belonged to my parents, who passed away in mid-2023. I’m relocating to Australia at the end of 2024, and it’s not feasible to bring her.

Margo is fully housetrained and stays off the furniture. She will bark if there’s a noise at the front door but otherwise, she’s quiet. At night, she sleeps in her crate and stays there when I’m out of the house. Say, “Kennel,” and Margo will dutifully nose the door open and climb inside.

Margo is disciplined. She sits at street crossings and waits for my go-ahead. I walk her on-leash in the supermarket and Home Depot, and she stays close. She will let strangers pet her, and she’ll give them a sniff, but she rarely lingers. With people that she recognizes, she will give excited yips and licks. She’s also great at running alongside a bike.

Commands Margo knows:
Sit (also via silent hand signal)
Drop (also via silent hand signal)
Wait
Let’s go
Stay close
Come
Uh Uh! (instead of “No”)
Off! (if she jumps on people)
No barking
Stay close (when off leash)
Go pee (outside)
Go poo (outside)

At a minimum, Margo needs a home with a large fenced-in yard (hopefully with squirrels). Ideally, Margo’s new owner would take her exploring the woods and fields. I’ve never hunted Margo, but she performed very well in a field trial with a bird-hunting club last autumn (no gun fired over her).

Margo has never bitten anyone. She exhibits no fear of men (or women) or any particular ethnicity. She hasn’t had much exposure to kids under 10 but is friendly with my adolescent nieces, whom she knows well.

Margo has several dog friends that she likes to play with. When she encounters a strange dog while off-leash, Margo usually shows little interest. She’s more focused on sniffing out game.

Margo has been introduced to cats but has never lived with one. When she met my sister’s cat indoors, Margo was excited but showed signs she understood the cat was part of the family. I believe she could cohabit with a cat.
