Hey there! River here. I came to my foster family as a really shy boy. You see, I get nervous when meeting strangers. My previous house had a lot of kids and adults coming in and out all the time it’s called a home childcare business. It was really crazy for a guy like me. I like people, but I need to get to know you first and build a little trust. Once we’re friends, I’d love to snuggle and play on the floor with you. My foster mom says I’m really handsome but a little thin, so she gives me lots of treats when I behave – which is most of the time for a smart guy like me. I enjoy going on walks and playing in the yard. Foster mom here. River is the most affectionate dog I’ve ever met! He is working on his social skills with our family (mom, dad and teenager) along with our six-year old female Brit. He loves our teenager, so an older kid would be great, but no young ones. River lived with three other dogs before coming into foster care. He can be placed with another dog (depending on temperament) IF you take the time to socialize them. River loves playing with our resident Brit. He’s very smart and doing well with refresher training (biggest challenge is off and come when distracted by critters in the yard). He’s eager to please and needs a family that will use a calm voice (given his sensitivity) to train him further. River loves going on walks and is heeling well with a training collar. He’s fully housebroken and crate trained! He also needs a family that likes to snuggle on the couch in the evening. Ideally, his new family would have one adult working from home (or home part-time) and a fenced (privacy) yard to exercise in. A quieter household would minimize his nervousness with strangers/guests. Please, no long distance or sight unseen adoptions for this boy. We feel it is important for all family members (humans and canines) to meet. If you want to be showered with love, River is the dog for you! Please fill out an adoption application River was an owner surrender directly to ABR. His family operates an in-home childcare business with lots of people coming in and out every day. This environment contributed to his nervous nature and he became protective of his personal space. River is neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative and on preventative.
