Dog Story: Quill is one lucky fellow. He was found on the side of the road and when a woman stopped to check on him, he got up and jumped into her car. That one move saved his life! Quill was HW positive, and at his estimated age of 7 years, we have no idea how long he had been infected. It was a heavy heartworm infestation. The woman who found him, brought him to a friend who has a puppy rescue. This wonderful woman, Cheryl, took him in, cared for him and took him through his HW treatment. She had contacted ABR and knew that we were ready to take him into foster care as soon as she felt he was ready. Over the course of his treatment, Cheryl kept in touch with ABR with progress reports and information that helped us find a good foster home for him. Quill fared very well, and just has a residual cough that may be with him forever. Quill has been settling into his foster home. At first he was shy and nervous and preferred to be in his crate rather than in the scary outside world, but he has made lots of progress as you can see from his photos. He is currently living with 3 other Britts and has come out of his shell. His eyesight is somewhat compromised, but the vet feels that it does not limit him and should not get worse. Quill would be best with older kids- he loves the foster home’s daughter who is 9 years old. Quill will become a great companion with lots of love and patience If you are the one who would like to see Quill blossom into a more confident dog, please submit an adoption application Since Quill was found on the side of road, with no idea where he came from, ABR has no background to share. It is apparent though, that he has had a very rough life, and it is so heartening to be able save this precious soul through the shared efforts of so many.
