Blaze is an owner surrender and going to need a very patient and understanding forever home. The back story on Blaze is when he was very young he was carried around like a show piece. When he was no longer a cute puppy he was put in a crate for hours and forgotten. After 18 months the owner put him on CL and gave him up. The second owner stated he had behavioral issues when they got him he was possessive, growled at anyone who may enter his home or approach person and had a tough time getting along with certain dogs. When Blaze came to rescue at the beginning of November he had two modes fight or flight. Since then he has settled down and realized we are not going to harm him but also not going to put up with him snapping at the other dogs or aggressive behavior. He’s started playing with the other dogs and fits in fairly well with the exception of our Lab mix. What we’ve learned is Blaze uses growling as a means of communication for everything, it just sounds like he’s trying to kill you when he actually wants to play. This has been intimidating for our youngest pup but our 3 yr old dog Finn has not been detoured and therefore keeps trying. Blaze is not good with cats or anything that may run from him and potentially seen as prey. Blaze would do best in a home where it is just him or only one other dog. More than one other dog seems to be more than he can handle. The previous owner stated he was good with their kids ages 6-9 however I’m going to say he would be best in an adult home. Blaze is housetrained, knows basic obedience and has good recall. He’s respectful of wireless fencing, crate trained and does ok on a leash. Blaze likes to cuddle and will worm his way onto your lap given a chance. He also likes to ride in the car but protective of his space if someone approaches the vehicle. We’re in no hurry to place Blaze, he can stay with us as long as it take to find the right home for him.
