Adopted!!!
Hailey is an eight year old spayed female American Brittany. Hailey is an owner surrendered Britt who has lived her entire life with her original owners in Missouri. The owners’ ages, and changing living conditions, were the determining factors which required them to give up Hailey. Hailey has been in her foster home since early October. When she arrived she was scared, noisy, a tad overweight, and basically untrained. Since arriving at the foster home, Hailey has been in basic training for obedience, and she has done very well and continues to improve daily. She is extremely smart. She now responds very well to the basic commands of: here, heel, woah, sit, down, and outside. She loves to play catch (she actually catches the ball in the air) and will retrieve to hand. Since becoming involved in an active exercise program Hailey has renewed her love of running, and running, and running. Because Brittanys are high energy dogs, and Hailey enjoys being active, a large enclosed yard would be perfect for her. She enjoys several long runs in our large fields two or three times each week, and as result her weight is coming down and she is beginning to tone up nicely. She is up to date on all vaccinations, receives regular flea/tick and heartworm meds. She has just had teeth cleaned along with some extractions, and therefore should not have any issues in this area for a while. (Vet recommends no soft chewy toys as they tend to cause excess salivation and future added dental issues.)
Hailey may have suffered some abuse at some time, as she responded quite defensive around men, but not so much around ladies. Since arriving at her foster home and working with foster dad, she has mellowed and regained some sense of security around men. But, because of these idiosyncrasies, it would be best if Hailey was with an active female in her forever home. Initially, it was reported that she does not respond well around children or other animals. However, since being at the foster home with other dogs, both pups and larger more active dogs, she has developed a sense of tolerance. Hailey is fully house trained, crate trained, and walks on loose leash, and loves to take little day trips in the truck. She sits quietly and enjoys the view as it rolls by. When at home, she is prone to barking and/or whining if she does not get her way, but is quickly conditioned to stop with the use of a bark collar. most times the collar will be effective even without the it being activated If you are interested in adopting Hailey, Please fill out the adoption application and mention her name and ID #. I would love to tell you more about this amazing girl!
As mentioned above, Hailey has been owned by one person her entire life. When he fell ill, the ex-wife took over caring for her hoping he would come back home, that was not the case. She was moving where she could not have pets so she reached out to ABR to help find a great home for Hailey.
