History: On July 24, ABR participated in Operation Magnolia Brittany with the seizure of 103 Brittanys from a breeder in Louisiana. Despite the less than optimal situation they came from, in most every way they are your typical Brittanys – eager for love, resilient and spirited, and so very happy and sweet. However, nearly all the Magnolia Brittanys are Heartworm Positive and require Heartworm treatment prior to adoption. Heartworm treatment requires several months in foster care and the cost of Heartworm treatment for each dog is approximately $1,000. The costs of veterinary care, vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchipping and Heartworm treatment in addition to the expense of supplies and transport for such a large group of dogs has been a great logistical and financial commitment. Our Brittanys are in desperate need of Brittany Buddy help and donations to help with the costs of their vet care, medical expenses and transport. Please find it in your heart to contribute to Operation Magnolia Brittany and become a Brittany Buddy – all donations will go directly towards helping these wonderful, deserving Brittanys on their journey to a new life! While undergoing Heartworm treatment the Magnolia Brittanys will remain in the loving care of their ABR foster homes. All the dogs have started Heartworm treatment and require several weeks of crate rest, leash walks and quiet recovery as their physical exertion must be limited during treatment. All the dogs have been spayed/neutered, microchipped and fully vetted. As soon as their Heartworm treatment is complete they will be back to normal and ready to move to their forever homes! In the meantime we are accepting adoption applications for the Magnolia Brittanys and invite potential adopters to contact their foster homes for more information. Dog Story: Pippa is an adorable little 3 year old liver_white female who is slowly learning not to be terrified of life. She is heartworm positive, but treatment is being postponed until she’s a little less stressed about just being in the world. When Pippa first came in to rescue, she was so terrified that she would poop if anyone tried to touch her. She scurried around with her belly practically touching the floor, and had to be carried outside to go potty. Pippa has come so far from being that terrified little girl! She will now walk on a leash, she no longer poops when people touch her, and she will actually walk upright! She’s still very timid and prefers her crate and her corner in the hallway, but she will venture out on occasion, to see what’s going on in other parts of the house. She’s considered playing with the other dogs, and has even gotten brave enough to put her front feet up on the fence to look for critters in the trees. Pippa still has a long way to go before she will be ready for a foster home, but she has that Brittany spark under all the terror, and she’ll eventually learn to be a great pet
