Dog Story: Meet Rico, the 110% Brittany Boy! Rico is everything you’d expect in a Brittany pup – full of bouncing energy, always ready to run and play, and with a definite need to work. He’s a smart guy investigating everything, and if he finds something interesting will gladly get into it! Counter-surfing, chasing cats and re-landscaping the yard are favorite pastimes. He’s a whirling bundle of energy ready to go adventuring, and looking for a family to share adventures with him! Rico has been working on house manners, leash walking and basic commands. He will need continued training with his new people to work on usual puppy behaviors and focus that Brittany drive. Rico is very eager to please and obedience classes with his new folks will be fun and rewarding learning everything he needs to be a good canine citizen. At home with the family, Rico is an affectionate lovebug and adores being with his people, snuggling up for belly rubs and romping with his foster siblings. He has lived with young children and is quite gentle with them, although he’d have a tendency to knock little ones over in his exuberance so will do best with kids over toddler age. Rico is a typical intelligent Brittany puppy with a high activity level and needs a job to do. His pedigree includes a long line of field dogs and he has a very high prey drive. Rico’s hunting instinct gets him focused on any small animal and he’s able to get out of the yard and tear off in pursuit of the neighborhood cats, so Rico will not go to a home with any cats or small pets. Although he loves his people, Rico has proven that he is an agile escape artist outdoors and able to get under or over the fence in search of fun outside. Rico’s new home must have high and secure privacy fencing also secured underground and not allow him to be unattended in the yard. At night and when his foster family is out, Rico sleeps in his crate which keeps him safe and happy with a chewy toy. This boy is looking for a Brittany-experienced home to give him lots of time and love, where he can be a beloved house pet and also have a job to do. Rico will be the ideal exercise partner for hiking, running or biking, and with his swift feet would excel in fun activities like agility or dock jumping. He would likely enjoy being a hunting companion as well and has had some basic training with a professional hunt trainer. Rico is definitely not a Brittany to go for short walks and be home alone for hours lounging in the yard. He’d be great with a canine companion and playmate as well. Channeling his energy and smarts with daily consistent exercise will make him the perfect match for an active family! Rico weighs 40 pounds, is healthy and current on vaccinations, heartworm negative and microchipped. If you’re interested in welcoming a busy Brittany dynamo to your family, please submit the online adoption application and mention Rico-3662 before contacting his foster family Rico was surrendered by his family to a hunt trainer when they could no longer care for him due to illness.
