I could go on and on about wonderful little Liza from Greece! She endured a very long journey from overseas like a champ without complaint, and has since become my shadow. She adores her people and I'll frequently catch her sitting quietly across the room just staring at me. She is very grateful for such little things, as simple as a gentle head scratch and a warm bed... although she prefers a lap. At only about 30lbs she is the ultimate little snuggler.

Liza came to ABR needing serious dental care, and we anticipate most of her teeth needing to be extracted. Even with the few teeth she has now, it doesn't keep her from devouring a full bowl of food!

As an international rescue, Liza will need to be tested annually for Leishmania. It is a parasite infection that we do not have here in the states, and is not transmittable from dog-dog or dog-human.  Though treatable, it is necessary to beware of symptoms as it can lay dormant for years. An annual blood test and a watchful eye is mandatory.

Liza has a wonderful amount of energy for nine years old. She keeps up with the resident puppy, wrestling and running in the yard, but easily settles down when asked.

She is a wonderful companion and has been a joy to foster. Whoever ends up with sweet Liza-Lu will be one lucky Brittany owner!

Please feel free to call or text her foster Mom, Bobbi with questions. 801-520-2254, or email directly at bobbi@bobbitolmanphoto.com

Dog Story:
Tucker wanted to share his journey with Britt friends as one of ABR’s lucky “forever-fosters”! Tucker came to rescue as a retired hunting dog who had always lived in an outdoor kennel and was past his prime in the field. Tucker was welcomed by an ABR volunteer and her Brittany boy who were searching for a new senior companion. Unfortunately it was found that Tucker had a number of medical issues and needed specialty veterinary care. Tucker was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure, a severely enlarged heart and fluid in his lungs, as well as malignant eye melanomas. A team of expert vets worked to get Tucker back on his paws with evaluation of his heart and lung conditions, eye surgery to remove the cancerous melanomas, and daily medications to help with Congestive Heart Failure. In true Brittany spirit, right after coming home from surgery Tucker figured out how to get his cone-collar through the doggie door and headed for the woods running full blast! He celebrated his first holiday in a real home with his Britt brother and loves napping fireside on chilly evenings.

Tucker’s forever-foster mom sent an update on this special boy:
Tucker is doing well on the medications even if you can see his little heart just pounding sometimes. He is wonderful and loves the freedom to go from cuddling to hunting all day long. He will run like a crazy Britt and hunt for an hour and then jump in the fountain to cool off and walk around until he is breathing normally and his heart has slowed. And of course then we run in the house all wet! I think he is also improving because he was a hunting dog and is still very active and in good shape. I put a Whisper 3 GPS tracker on him and the little guy averages between 4.5 to 7.5 miles a day running around my woods. Of course between runs he cools off in the fountain and then heads for a nap in my lap!! He is such a joy to have around and hopefully we will have him for a long time to come!

Tucker would be very grateful for any Brittany Buddy  donations towards his surgery and ongoing medical care. The generous donations from our sponsors enables ABR to provide continued veterinary care and support for the special needs of long-term forever and hospice foster dogs, who stay with their volunteer families to enjoy a happy, loving life working towards the best possible health for their senior years. Tucker’s family and ABR are most thankful for the kindness of all the friends who make life better for rescue Brittanys every day!

Amelia fka Little Missy

(Florida)

Dog Story:
Imagine the sound of a moaning harmonica off in the distance...  picture an old dog turned out by people who really never cared for her, walking the streets alone and sick.  Now you hear happy music because a young lady found her, took her in and turned her over to ABR. More happy music as Herself took over her care.  Herself named this poor old thing Missy.  Flash forward to now.  I really hate the name. Actually I don't think Herself likes the name either because she usually just calls me Hey You.  But I digress.. back to the sad harmonica.  I'm sick and I won't recover.  I have heartworms that have enlarged my sweet old heart.  Plus I have spots on my lungs. And there's a mammary tumor that can't be removed because of my heart. Oh and did I mention my megacolon?  At first I thought that was a good thing.  You know MegaDog the Great has a MegaColon!  Well that's not what it means.  It means that I was kept crated for so long and not allowed out and being a very good girl I didn't soil the my home so my colon just grew to accommodate "stuff".  Do you understand the sad music now?  So I'm looking for someone who will let me end my days in peace.  And give me a good name.  I need a good name.
Your sweet old friend,
Missy aka Hey You

You would not know that Little Missy has health issues to look at her or see her in action. She's a real social butterfly - loves everybody, everything: people, dogs, cats. Right now it looks like her life might be somewhat short but she only knows "today" and she is enjoying and living it fully

Missy has found a "forever" foster home to provide the few things she has on her Bucket List: 2 squares a day, some belly rubs and a few car rides!

She is not a candidate for traditional heartworm treatment but will be fine on the slow kill treatment. Her megacolon issues are treatable with daily stool softener.

Won't you please consider contributing to her care?

Missy is spayed, up to date  on vaccinations, is heartworm positive but on preventative as per protocol for slow kill treatment.

Adoption Pending 11 January 2020!!

The saying is you're only as old as you think you are. If this is true, Lucky must think he's 4. He is a fabulous Britt who does not have a clue that he is older and is supposed to have slowed down.  He is an affectionate guy who gets along great with our resident male. He loves to play with his toys and run around the yard like a maniac.
Lucky is very sweet and loves to cuddle with his humans on the couch. He knows to sit and wait to be fed. Leashes are a work in progress as are most commands. But he is definitely is smart and trainable. He'd be great in a home where a quiet dog is preferred as he rarely barks.
Lucky will need a family committed to his training and including him daily activities. Please no sight unseen adoptions for this boy, we feel it is important for all family members (human and canine) to meet to assure we have a good match.
If Lucky sounds like the Britt Boy for you, please complete the adoption application and be sure to mention him.

History:
Lucky is a surrender to rescue.  His Dad, a senior gentleman, passed away.  Dad’s care giver found Lucky with his human the next morning.  The family planned on euthanizing Lucky.  Dad’s caregiver stepped in, took Lucky home and notified ABR.  This boy came in to our rescue program.  He is neutered, Heart Worm negative, on preventive, microchipped and up to date on his vaccinations.   He has a thyroid condition that requires daily medication, but is otherwise healthy.
He is just waiting for a home to call his own.

Meet Teva, a sassy and oh so vibrant 11.5 yr old Brittany!  Don't let her age fool you though!  She can run as fast as a 1 yr old and STILL WANTS TO HUNT!  She is on the go… go.... go when outside.  When inside though, Teva just wants to snuggle with you and follow you around your home.

Teva has settled in very nicely into her foster home and now loves her foster brother.  They work together on the acreage chasing the birds or anything that peaks their interest.   You see, when Teva first came into rescue, she wanted to play with other dogs, but became very scared and would fight.  That was the OLD Teva...the new Teva has found her confidence and is making up for lost time!

Teva's perfect home would be one where there is land to run on, another dog to run/work with as well as owners who understand the breed and their needs.

Teva is up to date on her vaccines and heartworm negative and microchipped.  If you would like to bring this little firecracker of excitement into your home, then please fill out the adoption application and mention her name and ID#

History:
Teva was adopted by her family when she was about a year old and the family adopted another dog a year or so later.  They got along beautifully up until the last few years when they started fighting.  The family had to make the agonizing decision to surrender her to rescue in hopes she could find a better home and a happier life.

Paska

(New Jersey)

Paska is an eleven year old neutered male that is a pure joy to have around the house. Paska is part of a bonded pair with his forever pal Zeryk. He is house-trained and has never needed a crate. He is fine in the house with no supervision. He is good with other dogs and with our cat. Small children are not a good fit for this old boy because he doesn't do well with quick movements, noises, or surprises.
At 53lbs, and a medium frame, Paska is a bit overweight, but we are working to slim him down. This should be continued when adopted as well for better health. Paska has recently had a couple of growths removed. They were found to be benign and the vet said that other than the weight issue, Paska is in very good health.
Paska likes to spend his day laying close to you on the floor. He also likes to go outside and explore often, but never liked to stay out too long without someone being with him. Paska and his life long friend, Zeryk, are very content to just take it easy in their older years. They play with stuffed animals a bit, check out the yard a bit, and rest a lot. Paska is all about leading the easy life, so please no dog sledding Iditarods, or doggie surfing for this guy, just a scratch on the head by a nice warm fireplace will be fine.
If you are interested in adopting these special boys please fill out our adoption application and note Paska and Zeryk.
These two have been together their entire lives and must be adopted together!

Zeryk

(New Jersey)

Zeryk is a big boy. If he was a human he would be a large friendly lumberjack. He is tall and weights a little over 60lbs, but he isn't fat, he is just big. With that being said, Zeryk is the sweetest most easy going Brittany you will ever meet. Zeryk is part of a bonded pair with his forever friend and companion, Paska. He is 10 years old and does run out of steam easily, but that doesn't stop him from loving on you constantly and squeaking his toys. He is neutered, housebroken, and does not need a crate if left alone in the house.
Zeryk does have some breathing issues and a trip to the vet has shown chronic bronchitis. He is on medication and his breathing has improved. Zeryk is still very playful and absolutely loves to be around people.
Where as Paska is a little skittish, Zeryk is "the tall cool one" of the two. Nothing seems to bother him, and the world is just a happy place to be. When you come home from work, Zeryk is the happiest to see you and he will stay happy the entire time you are home. He never tires of loving you.
If you are interested in adopting these special boys please fill out our adoption application and note Paska and Zeryk. These two have been together their entire lives and must be adopted together!

Spike and Freckles nka Sparkle, a bonded pair, tell their tale of woe:

Let me tell you about the time we have had. First Pops passes away and then the Meanies come and got us. Then we got dumped at a scary place that smelled bad. But one morning before we even got breakfast, Herself appeared. She said we were sweet, stinky oldsters. We did smell kinda bad. We had to ride with the windows down. I had the way back seat and did not like it one bit. And I let Herself know it. We got a flat tire so I got to sit right behind Herself. I liked that a lot better. Sister hogged all the blankets and went right to sleep. Once we got stopped we got out and saw the rest of the pack that lives here. They all look like us except one. She is very small and very loud. I think that is all that needs to be said. Anyway we both got a spa treatment which wasn't too bad. We smell so much better now. And I have my own blanket. Life is getting better.
Foster mom here: the first week was really rough on this pair of oldsters; their world had turned upside down. Amazingly resilient for dogs their age, they have become curious, confident and affectionate. Freckles is the more independent of the bonded pair.

She is spayed, heartworm negative, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations and has had a dental and worming. We know their owner was a Brittany breeder and hunter. Spike and Freckles “hunt” nonstop in the yard and on leash walks.

Dog  Story:
3 words to describe Miss Daphnee - LIFE IS GOOD! If you are familiar with the "Life is Good" t-shirt company then you can probably picture a very happy dog enjoying life to the fullest. This dog is Daphnee. She is such a happy-go-lucky Brittany! Just yesterday, after running and playing ALL day in the yard chasing butterflies, cormorants, lizards and anything that moves she tears off running in large circles and flops on the ground for a wiggle session to scratch her back. So much fun to watch.

Don't let her age fool you. On March 19, 2019 she will turn 10! Daphnee does not act like 10. Be prepared to let her run OFF LEASH to burn her energy. Once she has had a chance to run and play she behaves beautifully inside. A few times it has rained all day and she did well inside however she wanted to be in my lap and then off, then on, then off, etc. Daphnee does great around all dogs of all sizes. She past the Camp Bow Wow temperament test and played very well with all of the doggies there. She is interested in the indoor cats however does not bother them - just curious. Daphnee does well riding in a car without a kennel - haven't tested her with one. We are still working on the off-leash training. There are times she does really well keeping her distance close and then there are the times the chase is on. To be fair, we live in an area where there are a lot of undeveloped tracts of land and Brittany distractions are everywhere. The only time I could not find her she was back at my home sitting on the front porch - Good girl Daphnee. Daphnee needs a secure fence and will test every possible weakness in the fence.

Daphne is up to date  on all vaccinations, spayed, heartworm  negative and on preventative. She is also microchipped. While being spayed we had a growth removed on her belly and had it examined by a pathologist. Luckily, the growth was benign with no residual issues. She currently weighs around 30 pounds and looks good at that weight. She eats a bit more (1.5 cups, 2 times a day) than my other Brits however she burns it off running and playing. Due to a lifestyle change Daphnee is an owner surrender. Daphnee's forever home will need to have another dog to help burn her energy. She also needs a secure fence. If you are interested in adopting Daphnee please fill out an adoption application

History:
Daphne is an owner surrender to rescue due to a lifestyle change.

Wilson is a happy senior boy with plenty of energy. When he gets tired he just goes in his crate for a rest.

Wilson gets along with his foster brother and is house broken. Wilson had most of his remaining teeth removed after being rescued as they were all in bad shape. It doesn't stop him from enjoying a great meal of soft food!

Dog Story:
I spent most of my life in a backyard with many other dogs. I did not get attention or pats on my head with someone to say “good boy”. After two weeks at a shelter, a nice lady came and got me. There was a long car ride but I finally met my foster mom. She called me Rocky. Her house was the first one I had ever been in and I found everything to be so interesting. But, I was good and never took anything. I like the recliner and rides in the car!

I was sick when I got to my foster mom’s house but after treatment, I feel much better. My cough is gone, my ears have been treated, I have been neutered and I had my teeth cleaned. I am a new dog!

I am very laid back and walk well on a leash. I seek attention a lot but it is okay because my foster mom is always there to give it to me. I am house broken for the most part but I do mark sometimes. I am also learning my commands and I always respond to treats. I hope that one day I will find my forever home with someone to hang out with me. I have so much love to give!

Foster mom:
Rocky is such a sweet boy. Everywhere I go in the house, he is right there with me. He does not have separation anxiety and walks into his crate when I need to leave the house. He really needs a steady companion to give him the love he wants and he needs to be the only pet in the house.

Rocky is up to date on shots, is heartworm negative and loves people! Does your heart have room for sharing love with this very sweet boy?

If you are interested in inquiring about Rocky, please submit an adoption application.
