Dog Story:

Hello my Brittany Peoples! It's me the talented, handsome, lovable (and humble) Barney. Can you believe of all the ABR International dogs that came here from Spain last spring I'm still looking for a home? I can't believe it either.

I've been keeping busy working super hard with my hoomom on my resource guarding and am doing much better. Hoomom has also been teaching me to not get too excited with the barking when the doorbell rings, but I tell ya' a dog has to protect his peeps.

Did I tell you I've got a super duper prey drive? Which if you want to go hunting, I'M YOUR MAN! However, if you have cats, small animals or dogs smaller than 20 lbs, I'm definitely not your man. I get along great with medium to large size dogs, especially other Brittanys. I would love to play fetch if you have a ball to throw and I'm an expert level snuggle-bug and couch potato that is willing to share my popcorn on movie night.

FROM FOSTER MOM: Barney is crate trained and well-behaved in the house. Barney would be best in a home with experienced Brittany owners who understand resource guarding behavior and can continue with his training. Barney is a kind soul that wants nothing more than to be with his people - Barney knows his perfect people are out there, they just haven't found him yet.

Barney was brought to the US from Spain as part of the ABR International Program. Dogs in the International Program require annual testing for Leishmaniasis; Leish is a parasitic disease that can lay dormant for up to 7 years and is common in the Mediterranean, South and Central America but not the US.

If you believe Barney would be a good addition to your family please fill out the online adoption  application and mention Barney. The adoption fee for dogs in the ABR International Program is $450.00.

Dog Story:
Tucker wanted to share his journey with Britt friends as one of ABR’s lucky “forever-fosters”! Tucker came to rescue as a retired hunting dog who had always lived in an outdoor kennel and was past his prime in the field. Tucker was welcomed by an ABR volunteer and her Brittany boy who were searching for a new senior companion. Unfortunately it was found that Tucker had a number of medical issues and needed specialty veterinary care. Tucker was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure, a severely enlarged heart and fluid in his lungs, as well as malignant eye melanomas. A team of expert vets worked to get Tucker back on his paws with evaluation of his heart and lung conditions, eye surgery to remove the cancerous melanomas, and daily medications to help with Congestive Heart Failure. In true Brittany spirit, right after coming home from surgery Tucker figured out how to get his cone-collar through the doggie door and headed for the woods running full blast! He celebrated his first holiday in a real home with his Britt brother and loves napping fireside on chilly evenings.

Tucker’s forever-foster mom sent an update on this special boy:
Tucker is doing well on the medications even if you can see his little heart just pounding sometimes. He is wonderful and loves the freedom to go from cuddling to hunting all day long. He will run like a crazy Britt and hunt for an hour and then jump in the fountain to cool off and walk around until he is breathing normally and his heart has slowed. And of course then we run in the house all wet! I think he is also improving because he was a hunting dog and is still very active and in good shape. I put a Whisper 3 GPS tracker on him and the little guy averages between 4.5 to 7.5 miles a day running around my woods. Of course between runs he cools off in the fountain and then heads for a nap in my lap!! He is such a joy to have around and hopefully we will have him for a long time to come!

Tucker would be very grateful for any Brittany Buddy  donations towards his surgery and ongoing medical care. The generous donations from our sponsors enables ABR to provide continued veterinary care and support for the special needs of long-term forever and hospice foster dogs, who stay with their volunteer families to enjoy a happy, loving life working towards the best possible health for their senior years. Tucker’s family and ABR are most thankful for the kindness of all the friends who make life better for rescue Brittanys every day!

Amelia fka Little Missy

(Florida)

Dog Story:
Imagine the sound of a moaning harmonica off in the distance...  picture an old dog turned out by people who really never cared for her, walking the streets alone and sick.  Now you hear happy music because a young lady found her, took her in and turned her over to ABR. More happy music as Herself took over her care.  Herself named this poor old thing Missy.  Flash forward to now.  I really hate the name. Actually I don't think Herself likes the name either because she usually just calls me Hey You.  But I digress.. back to the sad harmonica.  I'm sick and I won't recover.  I have heartworms that have enlarged my sweet old heart.  Plus I have spots on my lungs. And there's a mammary tumor that can't be removed because of my heart. Oh and did I mention my megacolon?  At first I thought that was a good thing.  You know MegaDog the Great has a MegaColon!  Well that's not what it means.  It means that I was kept crated for so long and not allowed out and being a very good girl I didn't soil the my home so my colon just grew to accommodate "stuff".  Do you understand the sad music now?  So I'm looking for someone who will let me end my days in peace.  And give me a good name.  I need a good name.
Your sweet old friend,
Missy aka Hey You

You would not know that Little Missy has health issues to look at her or see her in action. She's a real social butterfly - loves everybody, everything: people, dogs, cats. Right now it looks like her life might be somewhat short but she only knows "today" and she is enjoying and living it fully

Missy has found a "forever" foster home to provide the few things she has on her Bucket List: 2 squares a day, some belly rubs and a few car rides!

She is not a candidate for traditional heartworm treatment but will be fine on the slow kill treatment. Her megacolon issues are treatable with daily stool softener.

Won't you please consider contributing to her care?

Missy is spayed, up to date  on vaccinations, is heartworm positive but on preventative as per protocol for slow kill treatment.

Meet sweet Ellie! She's a very seasoned 11 yr old lady who is looking for her forever home!!

Ellie would be perfect for that retired couple who wants to take their Brittany everywhere as she LOVES the company and better yet LOVES car rides! Ellie would also do well with another dog or two around just in case you did have to leave for a time or are still working!  You see, Ellie doesn't like to be left alone when you are gone and now that she is with my clan, she is a whole new girl! Ellie plays with my other dogs and seems much more calmer over all.

Now we haven't crated her because we want her to get used to our home life slowly and before she came to us, she had great anxiety about being crated....so she has free reign of our home while my dogs are crated and the worst she has done is re-arranged my bedding. I can live with that and hopefully you can too!

Ellie loves her toys and chews and boy, does she love to run around on our acreage. We've even seen her go on point! Ellie really loves her bone with the peanut butter I add to it. She sees the other dogs receive one and she can't wait for hers. This I believe has helped her when we leave for the day.

Oh and one more thing....Ellie will "talk" to you!  Another endearing Brittany trait! She always lets me know when she has to go use the bathroom facilities outside by making sounds to wake me up. When you talk to Ellie, she tilts her head and intently listens to every word your say.

So what more can I say about this fantastic girl?  She's smart, knows commands, gives you her undivided attention when talking to her and will snuggle in bed or on the couch with you. If Ellie sounds like the right Brittany you have been looking for, then please complete the adoption application and mention her name and ID #.  We will be glad to talk to you more about her!!

History:
Ellie lived with her owner since she was a pup....they moved to an apartment complex recently and it was hard on Ellie to adjust.  The strange noises and such made her very nervous not being able to see what they were....mom tried everything, but in the end, she realized she had to let her go for her own sake as well as Ellie, so rescue was contacted!

My name is Atra and I am a 13 year old female. My owner is transitioning into assisted living and he could not take me with him. I was named after Frank Sinatra because when I was a puppy I had bright blue eyes. I like to be outside and my absolute favorite thing is to be by my “people”. I am looking for someone I can follow around all day and watch. Even though I am 13 I still like to play fetch and tug of war. I do well around other dogs of all sizes and small children. I have not been around a cat so I am not sure yet if I like them or not. If you are looking for a laid back and loyal buddy I am your girl.

Atra is up to date on her vaccines and heartworm negative and on preventative! If she is the girl you are looking for, please complete the adoption application and mention her name and ID #. We would love to tell you more about this very sweet little girl.

History:
Atra has been with her owner since she was a pup, but due to declining health, he is moving into a facility and she could not go with him so his daughter reached out to our rescue.

This sweet Senior came into rescue this last week. Teva loves her humans and older kids, but not so much with other dogs. It's a love hate relationship with them....so she would do best being spoiled just by her owners!

Teva is housebroken, crate trained and is just a joy to have around. Teva has many tricks up her sleeve, like....shake, high five, whoa, sit, down, stay and leave it!

You will see some growths on Teva, they are non-cancerous tumors per the vet and at her age, would be harder to recover removing them vs letting them be. So we are leaving them.

She may be 11 1/2  but this girl still has a lot of prey drive in her as she was once trained to hunt, yet hasn't actually hunted in years. I bet a few times in the field would bring her so much joy!

Her perfect home would be one where she is the only dog, older children (over 8) and a home that will play with her and give her the stimulation she use to have! If you are interested in this sweet girl, please fill out the adoption application and mention her name and ID #.

History:
Teva has been with her owner since she was very young...she and her "sister" used to get along just great but as they both got older, Teva started getting a shorter temper around her and fights started breaking out. We did have her Thyroid tested to be sure it wasn't that causing her temper to flare and it came back fine. She just is at that age where she prefers being with her humans and not so much around other dogs.

Adoption Pending 22 October 2019!!

Take a look at this sweet boy named Mosley!  He is just 9 years old and loves people, other dogs and cats.

Mosley will talk to you and let you know he missed you when you were gone!

Mosley's favorite game is fetch and will play that game both inside and outside. Mosley will also kennel up even though he doesn't like to be kenneled, but is respectful and will do it when we have to run errands.

Mosleys only fear is that of thunderstorms....

Mosley is house trained and will need a fenced in yard to keep him safe.

Lastly, Mosley  is a cuddle bug, he LOVES attention and likes it when he can one of us at all times. He is a very sweet boy, and would do very well in a home where he is with people most of the time.

UPDATE 10/1/19:
We took Mosley in to get his teeth cleaned last week and checked and unfortunately, the vet found a couple suspicious growths in his mouth which they removed. It turned out to be Melanoma. There is none remaining but the future remains unclear for Mosley. He could live another 5 yrs, or 3 yrs. It just depends on what life hands him going forward. We are deeply saddened, but know like all Brittanys, he's a fighter and will show all out there what he is made of.

UPDATE:  10/19/19

Sweet Mosley is worth EVERY penny ABR has spent on him to bring him to his current health status, but of course, those pennies added up to more than we expected. We would do it again in a heartbeat as he is the sweetest dog we have ever fostered.  His vet bills have totaled over $1,000.00 to date!  Mosley would love any support you could give our rescue in helping offset his expenses.  Hopefully, there will not be any further visits to the vet and he will find his forever home soon.

Thank you for your support and interest in Mosley!

Mosley is up to date on his vaccines, heartworm negative and on preventative. If you are interested in this very sweet boy, please complete the adoption application.

History:

Mosley was surrendered to our rescue due to a family illness.

Adoption Pending 14 November 2019!!

Max is a fabulous Britt who does not have a clue that he is older and is supposed to have slowed down. He is an affectionate guy who gets along great with our resident male. They have friendly and extended wrestling matches. It's fun to watch them steal and retrieve a few favorite toys back and forth. At the dog park he is aware of the other dogs but not very interested. Max mostly just wants to be let off the lead so he can start hunting! Whenever out he wants to "work".
Max very much likes his crate at night and often goes there during the day as well. He has gotten better about jumping on kids and allows pets, returning the attention with kisses. On walks he is very, very active and strong as an ox, but he's getting better about not pulling. Max will need a strong hand, but looks for attention and direction. He definitely is smart and trainable. Max will need a family committed to his training and including him in their daily activities.
Please no sight unseen adoptions for this boy, we feel is important for all family members (human and canine) to meet to assure we have a good match.
If Max sounds like the Britt Boy for you, please complete the adoption application and be sure to mention him.

History:
Max was an owner surrender to a shelter. He had been a bird dog his whole life. He had never been in a house. ABR stepped in and Max came in to our rescue program. He is neutered, Heart Worm negative, on preventive, microchipped and up to date on his vaccinations.

He is just waiting for a home to call his own.

Paska

(New Jersey)

Paska is an eleven year old neutered male that is a pure joy to have around the house. Paska is part of a bonded pair with his forever pal Zeryk. He is house-trained and has never needed a crate. He is fine in the house with no supervision. He is good with other dogs and with our cat. Small children are not a good fit for this old boy because he doesn't do well with quick movements, noises, or surprises.
At 53lbs, and a medium frame, Paska is a bit overweight, but we are working to slim him down. This should be continued when adopted as well for better health. Paska has recently had a couple of growths removed. They were found to be benign and the vet said that other than the weight issue, Paska is in very good health.
Paska likes to spend his day laying close to you on the floor. He also likes to go outside and explore often, but never liked to stay out too long without someone being with him. Paska and his life long friend, Zeryk, are very content to just take it easy in their older years. They play with stuffed animals a bit, check out the yard a bit, and rest a lot. Paska is all about leading the easy life, so please no dog sledding Iditarods, or doggie surfing for this guy, just a scratch on the head by a nice warm fireplace will be fine.
If you are interested in adopting these special boys please fill out our adoption application and note Paska and Zeryk.
These two have been together their entire lives and must be adopted together!

Zeryk

(New Jersey)

Zeryk is a big boy. If he was a human he would be a large friendly lumberjack. He is tall and weights a little over 60lbs, but he isn't fat, he is just big. With that being said, Zeryk is the sweetest most easy going Brittany you will ever meet. Zeryk is part of a bonded pair with his forever friend and companion, Paska. He is 10 years old and does run out of steam easily, but that doesn't stop him from loving on you constantly and squeaking his toys. He is neutered, housebroken, and does not need a crate if left alone in the house.
Zeryk does have some breathing issues and a trip to the vet has shown chronic bronchitis. He is on medication and his breathing has improved. Zeryk is still very playful and absolutely loves to be around people.
Where as Paska is a little skittish, Zeryk is "the tall cool one" of the two. Nothing seems to bother him, and the world is just a happy place to be. When you come home from work, Zeryk is the happiest to see you and he will stay happy the entire time you are home. He never tires of loving you.
If you are interested in adopting these special boys please fill out our adoption application and note Paska and Zeryk. These two have been together their entire lives and must be adopted together!

Hi, I'm Ben! I've been a very good companion for my owner and he or she passed away. I went to live with their daughter and her 4 and 6 year old kids. I'm a great family dog. I need extra special attention for my food allergies. I take an allergy pill everyday and need special food. I Love walks but I'm not quite able to go on bike rides. I'm a happy-go-lucky fellow. I do love to snuggle.  I've been sleeping next to my foster mom every night and I need help climbing into bed. I've been loved but a little neglected my whole life. I'm a very secure, very sweet boy.  I rescued from the doggy orphanage (local humane society).  My teeth are sparkling clean and my skin infections are getting cleared up. I can't wait to meet my new family!

Dog  Story:
3 words to describe Miss Daphnee - LIFE IS GOOD! If you are familiar with the "Life is Good" t-shirt company then you can probably picture a very happy dog enjoying life to the fullest. This dog is Daphnee. She is such a happy-go-lucky Brittany! Just yesterday, after running and playing ALL day in the yard chasing butterflies, cormorants, lizards and anything that moves she tears off running in large circles and flops on the ground for a wiggle session to scratch her back. So much fun to watch.

Don't let her age fool you. On March 19, 2019 she will turn 10! Daphnee does not act like 10. Be prepared to let her run OFF LEASH to burn her energy. Once she has had a chance to run and play she behaves beautifully inside. A few times it has rained all day and she did well inside however she wanted to be in my lap and then off, then on, then off, etc. Daphnee does great around all dogs of all sizes. She past the Camp Bow Wow temperament test and played very well with all of the doggies there. She is interested in the indoor cats however does not bother them - just curious. Daphnee does well riding in a car without a kennel - haven't tested her with one. We are still working on the off-leash training. There are times she does really well keeping her distance close and then there are the times the chase is on. To be fair, we live in an area where there are a lot of undeveloped tracts of land and Brittany distractions are everywhere. The only time I could not find her she was back at my home sitting on the front porch - Good girl Daphnee. Daphnee needs a secure fence and will test every possible weakness in the fence.

Daphne is up to date  on all vaccinations, spayed, heartworm  negative and on preventative. She is also microchipped. While being spayed we had a growth removed on her belly and had it examined by a pathologist. Luckily, the growth was benign with no residual issues. She currently weighs around 30 pounds and looks good at that weight. She eats a bit more (1.5 cups, 2 times a day) than my other Brits however she burns it off running and playing. Due to a lifestyle change Daphnee is an owner surrender. Daphnee's forever home will need to have another dog to help burn her energy. She also needs a secure fence. If you are interested in adopting Daphnee please fill out an adoption application

History:
Daphne is an owner surrender to rescue due to a lifestyle change.

Dog Story:
Say a big HELLO to Austin! Austin came to the attention of ABR volunteers as a stray in a shelter in Austin, Texas. From there he went to a vet's office to be neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. He is now in the comfort of a foster home and is loving life.

Austin is a senior. Foster mom estimates his age to be at least 10 years old. And like most seniors he is still active, loves to explore, loves his foster companions and is very, very sweet. He has the sweetest look about him, especially when he wakes from a nap.

Austin is deaf. He compensates by looking for you or his foster companions therefore a home with another dog is a must. If you ask Austin, he would love to go with Daphnee as he has filled up her dance card.

Austin is up to date  on all vaccinations, neutered, chipped and is on heartworm preventative and flea & tick protection. Austin weighs 45-48 pounds and looks great at that weight. He does pretty well on a leash, not sure if he would be great off leash as his nose appears to be the leader when he is out on a walk. He rides very well in a vehicle. He is interested in cats, just not sure if he could be trusted by himself. He gets along with all of the neighborhood dogs and has stood up to another dog trying to get a bit too frisky. He has had a few accidents in the home however these were early on and we did not notice his ques.

If you are interested in knowing more on Austin please fill out an adoption application As previously mentioned a home with another dog(s) would be necessary since Austin takes a lot of ques from his foster companions.

El Champo AKA Champ

(Texas)

Howdy from Champ (AKA El Champo)!

Champ is a wonderfully sweet Brittany.  He loves to be around other dogs and humans and plays extremely well with a neighbor's young pup.  Champ has done very well inside the home with a few accidents (foster mom didn't understand his cues).  Champ is a quiet Brittany.  Not sure if he is actually quiet or since there are 4 other Britts around he feel no need to bark or make noise.  So far, Champ has done well around indoor/outdoor kitties.  Champ has had limited exposure with children however neighborhood kids, aged 4 & 6, Champ did very well.  Teenagers were no issues as well.  The shelter stated Champ was around 6 yrs old however foster mom & vet believe he is around 8 yrs old.

Champ is up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative and on preventative, neutered and microchipped.  He came into the foster home a bit skinny and has gained some weight.  Champ is a good eater and eats well around all of the other dogs.  Champs front teeth are worn down however this does not alter his appetite or behavior.  Champ's back legs & gait are "weak".  Foster mom and vet believes he might have been kept in a small kennel limiting his movement.  His legs/gait are improving and has no limits.

Champ was found in a parking lot, no owners looking for him.  A good samaritan  brought him to the county shelter where ABR was contacted.

Champ's forever home would be one where he could be with other dogs playing outside and have a soft bed inside.  Cats & Kids welcome.

Wilson is a happy senior boy with plenty of energy. When he gets tired he just goes in his crate for a rest.

Wilson gets along with his foster brother and is house broken. Wilson had most of his remaining teeth removed after being rescued as they were all in bad shape. It doesn't stop him from enjoying a great meal of soft food!

If you would like to have a lovely easy going Brittany boy join your family, please email his foster Dad at barlowfamily220@msn.com or call 801-550-4138

Wilson was a stray and was rescued by ABR.

Sweet Remy has not had an easy life. This poor old boy was found in a river bed trying to survive off fish guts and anything else he could scavenge. When approached by the people who found him he wouldn't even stand up. His luck would soon turn as the nice folks who found him turned him into the shelter and was quickly scooped up by ABR. We presume he was tied up outdoors most of his life as he initially was afraid of going inside and the fur around his neck is completely worn away. We assume he eventually freed himself from his tether and wandered off, his owners not bothering to look for him. No dog could be more deserving of a nice warm bed and companion to love him through the best years of his life.

Remy gets along great with other dogs. Because he doesn't see very well, he currently enjoys following the other foster senior, Wilson, around the yard. He seems to be mostly deaf, though occasionally responds to high pitched noises or loud clapping. Though he is still very under weight, he moves well and has a good amount of energy. With more TLC, we expect him to get better and better with time.

Remy is neutered, current on all vaccines, microchipped, and tested negative for heartworm. This wonderful boy is ready to go to his forever home and be spoiled rotten!

Dog Story:
I spent most of my life in a backyard with many other dogs. I did not get attention or pats on my head with someone to say “good boy”. After two weeks at a shelter, a nice lady came and got me. There was a long car ride but I finally met my foster mom. She called me Rocky. Her house was the first one I had ever been in and I found everything to be so interesting. But, I was good and never took anything. I like the recliner and rides in the car!

I was sick when I got to my foster mom’s house but after treatment, I feel much better. My cough is gone, my ears have been treated, I have been neutered and I had my teeth cleaned. I am a new dog!

I am very laid back and walk well on a leash. I seek attention a lot but it is okay because my foster mom is always there to give it to me. I am house broken for the most part but I do mark sometimes. I am also learning my commands and I always respond to treats. I hope that one day I will find my forever home with someone to hang out with me. I have so much love to give!

Foster mom:
Rocky is such a sweet boy. Everywhere I go in the house, he is right there with me. He does not have separation anxiety and walks into his crate when I need to leave the house. He really needs a steady companion to give him the love he wants and he needs to be the only pet in the house.

Rocky is up to date on shots, is heartworm negative and loves people! Does your heart have room for sharing love with this very sweet boy?
