Barney

(California)

Dog Story:
Barney will resource guard anything he can and will growl when approached.  We are still working on that correction.  He does play well with medium to large brittanys.  Unfortunately any dog, cat or animal smaller than 20 lbs. is viewed as prey and he will go for them very quickly.  Being from Spain, he will need to be tested annually for leishmania for the next 7 years.  If the leishmania becomes active, it is easily treated with antibiotics and this will not spread to other animals.   Leishmania is spread by sand fleas in Spain and is not here in the states, but it can lay dormant in animals for 7 years.

I don't have a pool and I don't know how he will react around one.  He pulls a little on the leash but enjoys all time he can be with people.  He is quite protective and barks when people surprise him by coming up to the door or using the door bell.

Being from Spain, he has a $450.00 adoption fee.

Barney is a sweet snuggle bug of a Roan boy from Spain. He wants nothing more than to be with his people He loves to play fetch with a few tennis balls or toys. He enjoys alone time with his people and his things. He will do best with an experienced owner that will understand his resource idiosyncrasies and be able continue his training.

He is crate trained and well behaved in the house. He will be your couch potato and best friend.

If Barney would be a good addition to your family please fill out the online adoption application  and mention Barney.

Dog Story:
Tucker wanted to share his journey with Britt friends as one of ABR’s lucky “forever-fosters”! Tucker came to rescue as a retired hunting dog who had always lived in an outdoor kennel and was past his prime in the field. Tucker was welcomed by an ABR volunteer and her Brittany boy who were searching for a new senior companion. Unfortunately it was found that Tucker had a number of medical issues and needed specialty veterinary care. Tucker was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure, a severely enlarged heart and fluid in his lungs, as well as malignant eye melanomas. A team of expert vets worked to get Tucker back on his paws with evaluation of his heart and lung conditions, eye surgery to remove the cancerous melanomas, and daily medications to help with Congestive Heart Failure. In true Brittany spirit, right after coming home from surgery Tucker figured out how to get his cone-collar through the doggie door and headed for the woods running full blast! He celebrated his first holiday in a real home with his Britt brother and loves napping fireside on chilly evenings.

Tucker’s forever-foster mom sent an update on this special boy:
Tucker is doing well on the medications even if you can see his little heart just pounding sometimes. He is wonderful and loves the freedom to go from cuddling to hunting all day long. He will run like a crazy Britt and hunt for an hour and then jump in the fountain to cool off and walk around until he is breathing normally and his heart has slowed. And of course then we run in the house all wet! I think he is also improving because he was a hunting dog and is still very active and in good shape. I put a Whisper 3 GPS tracker on him and the little guy averages between 4.5 to 7.5 miles a day running around my woods. Of course between runs he cools off in the fountain and then heads for a nap in my lap!! He is such a joy to have around and hopefully we will have him for a long time to come!

Tucker would be very grateful for any Brittany Buddy  donations towards his surgery and ongoing medical care. The generous donations from our sponsors enables ABR to provide continued veterinary care and support for the special needs of long-term forever and hospice foster dogs, who stay with their volunteer families to enjoy a happy, loving life working towards the best possible health for their senior years. Tucker’s family and ABR are most thankful for the kindness of all the friends who make life better for rescue Brittanys every day!

Amelia fka Little Missy

(Florida)

Dog Story:
Imagine the sound of a moaning harmonica off in the distance...  picture an old dog turned out by people who really never cared for her, walking the streets alone and sick.  Now you hear happy music because a young lady found her, took her in and turned her over to ABR. More happy music as Herself took over her care.  Herself named this poor old thing Missy.  Flash forward to now.  I really hate the name. Actually I don't think Herself likes the name either because she usually just calls me Hey You.  But I digress.. back to the sad harmonica.  I'm sick and I won't recover.  I have heartworms that have enlarged my sweet old heart.  Plus I have spots on my lungs. And there's a mammary tumor that can't be removed because of my heart. Oh and did I mention my megacolon?  At first I thought that was a good thing.  You know MegaDog the Great has a MegaColon!  Well that's not what it means.  It means that I was kept crated for so long and not allowed out and being a very good girl I didn't soil the my home so my colon just grew to accommodate "stuff".  Do you understand the sad music now?  So I'm looking for someone who will let me end my days in peace.  And give me a good name.  I need a good name.
Your sweet old friend,
Missy aka Hey You

You would not know that Little Missy has health issues to look at her or see her in action. She's a real social butterfly - loves everybody, everything: people, dogs, cats. Right now it looks like her life might be somewhat short but she only knows "today" and she is enjoying and living it fully

Missy has found a "forever" foster home to provide the few things she has on her Bucket List: 2 squares a day, some belly rubs and a few car rides!

She is not a candidate for traditional heartworm treatment but will be fine on the slow kill treatment. Her megacolon issues are treatable with daily stool softener.

Won't you please consider contributing to her care?

Missy is spayed, up to date  on vaccinations, is heartworm positive but on preventative as per protocol for slow kill treatment.

Peaches

(Kentucky)

Dog Story:
Peaches is such a sweet senior! She happily goes along with anything you suggest, is good with other dogs, cats and children. If you are searching for a pleasant, glad-to-see you, glad-to-be-with-you companion, you couldn't find a better one than Peaches.

Peaches is spayed, up to date on her vaccinations, chipped, heartworm negative and on preventative. In early August she began a course of antibiotics to treat Lyme exposure. She does not demonstrate a "startle reflex" so it is presumed she is hearing impaired. She has a bit of arthritis in her back legs but is showing no sign of pain.

Peaches was whisked away from a high kill shelter by awesome ABR volunteers. Her fur was so matted that it had maggots in it and the matts inhibited her ability to walk. Her foster mom gave her relief immediately on her arrival: a comforting bath and grooming.

Peaches is looking forward to living out her days in a loving retirement home where she can cuddle and snooze.

Max is a fabulous Britt who does not have a clue that he is older and is supposed to have slowed down. He is an affectionate guy who gets along great with our resident male. They have friendly and extended wrestling matches. It's fun to watch them steal and retrieve a few favorite toys back and forth. At the dog park he is aware of the other dogs but not very interested. Max mostly just wants to be let off the lead so he can start hunting! Whenever out he wants to "work".

Max very much likes his crate at night and often goes there during the day as well. He has gotten better about jumping on kids and allows pets, returning the attention with kisses. On walks he is very, very active and strong as an ox, but he's getting better about not pulling. Max will need a strong hand, but looks for attention and direction. He definitely is smart and trainable. Max will need a family commited to his training and including him in their daily activities.

Please no sight unseen adoptions for this boy, we feel is important for all family members (human and canine) to meet to assure we have a good match.
If Max sounds like the Britt Boy for you, please complete the adoption application and be sure to mention him.

History:
Max was an owner surrender to a shelter. He had been a bird dog his whole life. He had never been in a house. ABR stepped in and Max came in to our rescue program. He is neutered, Heart Worm negative, on preventive, microchipped and up to date on his vaccinations.

He is just waiting for a home to call his own.

Meet Britt, an Oldie but a Goody of our wonderful breed! He is the sweetest senior at 13-14 years old and is mostly deaf and has arthritis but understands hand signals.  Even with his arthritis, he can run like the wind and then walk with a limp.  Sweet Britt was in our rescue once before many years ago and was adopted by wonderful gentlemen.  Unfortunately, he passed away and his son tried to care for Britt, but had so much going on in his own life, Britt wasn’t getting what he needed or was used to so we were contacted and it was wonderful to see my former foster again.

Britt now is looking for a family to call his own once more.  He is such a happy soul who gets along with other dogs but we are not sure about cats.  He was 100% housebroken, but let’s face it, as we get older, we cannot hold it as long as we once did, so he does need to be let out a little more often than a 2 yr old.

  1. If you enjoy the breed but are the point that a puppy or a younger active Brittany is not what you know you want, then please consider opening your home to a seasoned Brittany.  They are wonderful, quiet, loyal, great for taking walks without dislocating your shoulder and want just what you want.  A home, love and friendship.  If you are looking for this, look no farther!  Just complete the online application and mention his name and ID#. I would love to tell you more about Britt.  Britt is up to date on his vaccines and is heartworm negative and on preventative.

HISTORY:

As stated above, Britt was a rescue many years ago and was adopted and had a great life till his owner passed away.  His son knew he couldn’t care for him the way his did so he reached out to us.

Dog  Story:
3 words to describe Miss Daphnee - LIFE IS GOOD! If you are familiar with the "Life is Good" t-shirt company then you can probably picture a very happy dog enjoying life to the fullest. This dog is Daphnee. She is such a happy-go-lucky Brittany! Just yesterday, after running and playing ALL day in the yard chasing butterflies, cormorants, lizards and anything that moves she tears off running in large circles and flops on the ground for a wiggle session to scratch her back. So much fun to watch.

Don't let her age fool you. On March 19, 2019 she will turn 10! Daphnee does not act like 10. Be prepared to let her run OFF LEASH to burn her energy. Once she has had a chance to run and play she behaves beautifully inside. A few times it has rained all day and she did well inside however she wanted to be in my lap and then off, then on, then off, etc. Daphnee does great around all dogs of all sizes. She past the Camp Bow Wow temperament test and played very well with all of the doggies there. She is interested in the indoor cats however does not bother them - just curious. Daphnee does well riding in a car without a kennel - haven't tested her with one. We are still working on the off-leash training. There are times she does really well keeping her distance close and then there are the times the chase is on. To be fair, we live in an area where there are a lot of undeveloped tracts of land and Brittany distractions are everywhere. The only time I could not find her she was back at my home sitting on the front porch - Good girl Daphnee. Daphnee needs a secure fence and will test every possible weakness in the fence.

Daphne is up to date  on all vaccinations, spayed, heartworm  negative and on preventative. She is also microchipped. While being spayed we had a growth removed on her belly and had it examined by a pathologist. Luckily, the growth was benign with no residual issues. She currently weighs around 30 pounds and looks good at that weight. She eats a bit more (1.5 cups, 2 times a day) than my other Brits however she burns it off running and playing. Due to a lifestyle change Daphnee is an owner surrender. Daphnee's forever home will need to have another dog to help burn her energy. She also needs a secure fence. If you are interested in adopting Daphnee please fill out an adoption application

History:
Daphne is an owner surrender to rescue due to a lifestyle change.

Dog Story:
Say a big HELLO to Austin! Austin came to the attention of ABR volunteers as a stray in a shelter in Austin, Texas. From there he went to a vet's office to be neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. He is now in the comfort of a foster home and is loving life.

Austin is a senior. Foster mom estimates his age to be at least 10 years old. And like most seniors he is still active, loves to explore, loves his foster companions and is very, very sweet. He has the sweetest look about him, especially when he wakes from a nap.

Austin is deaf. He compensates by looking for you or his foster companions therefore a home with another dog is a must. If you ask Austin, he would love to go with Daphnee as he has filled up her dance card.

Austin is up to date  on all vaccinations, neutered, chipped and is on heartworm preventative and flea & tick protection. Austin weighs 45-48 pounds and looks great at that weight. He does pretty well on a leash, not sure if he would be great off leash as his nose appears to be the leader when he is out on a walk. He rides very well in a vehicle. He is interested in cats, just not sure if he could be trusted by himself. He gets along with all of the neighborhood dogs and has stood up to another dog trying to get a bit too frisky. He has had a few accidents in the home however these were early on and we did not notice his ques.

If you are interested in knowing more on Austin please fill out an adoption application As previously mentioned a home with another dog(s) would be necessary since Austin takes a lot of ques from his foster companions.

El Champo AKA Champ

(Texas)

Howdy from Champ (AKA El Champo)!

Champ is a wonderfully sweet Brittany.  He loves to be around other dogs and humans and plays extremely well with a neighbor's young pup.  Champ has done very well inside the home with a few accidents (foster mom didn't understand his cues).  Champ is a quiet Brittany.  Not sure if he is actually quiet or since there are 4 other Britts around he feel no need to bark or make noise.  So far, Champ has done well around indoor/outdoor kitties.  Champ has had limited exposure with children however neighborhood kids, aged 4 & 6, Champ did very well.  Teenagers were no issues as well.  The shelter stated Champ was around 6 yrs old however foster mom & vet believe he is around 8 yrs old.

Champ is up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative and on preventative, neutered and microchipped.  He came into the foster home a bit skinny and has gained some weight.  Champ is a good eater and eats well around all of the other dogs.  Champs front teeth are worn down however this does not alter his appetite or behavior.  Champ's back legs & gait are "weak".  Foster mom and vet believes he might have been kept in a small kennel limiting his movement.  His legs/gait are improving and has no limits.

Champ was found in a parking lot, no owners looking for him.  A good samaritan  brought him to the county shelter where ABR was contacted.

Champ's forever home would be one where he could be with other dogs playing outside and have a soft bed inside.  Cats & Kids welcome.

Dog Story:
I spent most of my life in a backyard with many other dogs. I did not get attention or pats on my head with someone to say “good boy”. After two weeks at a shelter, a nice lady came and got me. There was a long car ride but I finally met my foster mom. She called me Rocky. Her house was the first one I had ever been in and I found everything to be so interesting. But, I was good and never took anything. I like the recliner and rides in the car!

I was sick when I got to my foster mom’s house but after treatment, I feel much better. My cough is gone, my ears have been treated, I have been neutered and I had my teeth cleaned. I am a new dog!

I am very laid back and walk well on a leash. I seek attention a lot but it is okay because my foster mom is always there to give it to me. I am house broken for the most part but I do mark sometimes. I am also learning my commands and I always respond to treats. I hope that one day I will find my forever home with someone to hang out with me. I have so much love to give!

Foster mom:
Rocky is such a sweet boy. Everywhere I go in the house, he is right there with me. He does not have separation anxiety and walks into his crate when I need to leave the house. He really needs a steady companion to give him the love he wants and he needs to be the only pet in the house.

Rocky is up to date on shots, is heartworm negative and loves people! Does your heart have room for sharing love with this very sweet boy?

If you are interested in inquiring about Rocky, please submit an adoption application.
